On 15 July 2026 Realta Fusion announced it had selected Wisconsin for its fusion energy research and development facility: a 200,000 square foot R&D hub at the former Oscar Mayer plant on Madison's east side, which will also become the company's corporate headquarters. Realta and Wisconsin officials said the project is expected to create more than 600 jobs over five years. The announcement was made alongside Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, with state and local incentives supporting the relocation. No capital investment figure for the facility was disclosed by the company.

Zap Energy announced the appointment of Zabrina Johal as Chief Executive Officer and formalised a strategy, developed over the preceding year, to combine near-term micromodular fission deployment with its long-term sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch fusion programme. Cofounder Benj Conway transitions to President, focusing on strategy, partnerships and long-term technology development. Zap positions itself as the first company unifying fission and fusion in a single engineering, supply-chain and deployment architecture, citing data-centre power demand growth of more than 160% by 2030 versus 2023 and Goldman Sachs estimates of 85-90 GW of new nuclear capacity needed. TechCrunch characterised it as a partial pivot; GeekWire called it a nuclear double play.

TAE announced completion of its multi-state site evaluation tour for its first fusion power plant, following visits across Alabama, Ohio and Texas. The tour is part of the siting and development process for TAE's initial ~50 MWe fusion facility and its planned future utility-scale deployments. No site selection was announced — the release reports the assessment as concluded, not the location as chosen.

Mazama Energy said it will begin a new phase of drilling and field operations at its Newberry Volcano site in central Oregon in Q2 2026, focused on additional high-temperature wells. The reported sequence is an observation well in the second quarter of 2026 followed by an injection well in the third quarter. The company describes the 2026 programme as intended to move the project from pilot-scale testing toward commercial development, following its 2025 Superhot Rock Enhanced Geothermal System pilot at Newberry where it reported a bottomhole temperature of 331 C (629 F). No new temperature or power-output result was reported: this is an announced plan for future work, not a completed technical result.

TAE commenced site visits across multiple US locations on 26 March 2026 as part of the siting and development process for its first fusion power plant, assessing land access, connectivity to primary distribution grids, proximity to skilled labour and transport infrastructure, and alignment with state and local stakeholders. The first facility targets approximately 50 MWe of electricity generation in the early 2030s; TAE states future plants are expected to range from 350-500 MWe.
