SHINE to support Argonne and Case Western on high-throughput separation technology for fuel recycling

SHINE said it is collaborating with DOE's Argonne National Laboratory and Case Western Reserve University to apply chemical separation technology to the nuclear fuel recycling process it is developing, conducted through ARPA-E's CURIE Program with additional funding led by Case Western Reserve, where SHINE participates as a subcontractor. Argonne is developing equipment called PaCERS (Packed Centrifugal Equipment for Radiochemical Separation), which spins fast enough to generate centrifugal forces beyond ordinary gravity to increase chemical separation efficiency — a higher-throughput, lower-solvent approach. SHINE is working to apply PaCERS to separation processes including those recovering strontium-90 and americium-241 for medical, manufacturing and advanced power uses, and to minor actinide recovery. SHINE states spent nuclear fuel retains some 90% of its energy potential. No value for SHINE's subcontract was disclosed.

SHINE works as subcontractor on GE Vernova-led ARPA-E project to modernise nuclear material accountability

SHINE said it is working with GE Vernova on an ARPA-E-funded project to develop a modernised system for tracking spent fuel through the recycling process, led by GE Vernova's Advanced Research Center. The project aims to use AI to optimise spent nuclear fuel tracking and measurement at recycling facilities, developing technology called MAYER (Monochromatic Assays Yielding Enhanced Reliability) intended to track and measure nuclear material in real time. As a GE Vernova subcontractor, SHINE is developing sensor deployment and AI-powered material-tracking systems so that material control and accountability can be designed into recycling facilities from the outset. SHINE CTO Ross Radel framed the goal as avoiding permanent cost and disruption from accountability requirements. No award value for SHINE's scope was disclosed.

TAE signs strategic helium-3 supply and commercialisation agreement with Black Moon Energy

TAE announced an agreement with Black Moon Energy Corporation (BMEC) to support future commercialisation of fusion power through a prospective helium-3 fuel supply option and a commercial development collaboration. Hedged language preserved as issued: under the terms, BMEC "would supply" helium-3 to TAE, and the release describes the supply as a "prospective" option rather than a contracted volume. TAE frames the value as fuel flexibility for its hydrogen-boron field-reversed-configuration approach ahead of Da Vinci, its first commercial plant.

ORNL licenses four cryogenic pellet fueling inventions to Type One Energy for stellarator fuelling

Oak Ridge National Laboratory licensed a suite of four cryogenic pellet fueling inventions to Type One Energy under an agreement signed at the Nuclear Opportunities Workshop in Knoxville, Tennessee on 5 August 2026. The technologies form solid hydrogen pellets a few degrees above absolute zero and inject them at high speed into the plasma core, which is more effective than gas puffing and improves plasma performance. It extends an existing ORNL relationship that already covers a high-heat-flux test facility and a joint INFUSE programme project. ORNL Director Stephen Streiffer described it as moving fueling research out of the lab and into application; John Canik, Type One's Chief Science and Engineering Officer, called high-repetition reliable fuelling one of the most essential capabilities for a commercial plant.

Barclays backs the UK Infinity Fusion Consortium, bringing project-finance and capital-markets expertise to Type One Energy's UK plant push

Barclays announced on 21 July 2026 that it is supporting the UK Infinity Fusion Consortium, the private-sector-led collaboration formed in May 2026 by Type One Energy, Tokamak Energy and AECOM to develop a commercial fusion power plant in the UK. Barclays contributes expertise in energy, infrastructure, project finance, capital markets and commercial frameworks rather than committed capital. Group Chief Executive C.S. Venkatakrishnan said fusion has the potential to become an important part of a secure, resilient and low-carbon energy system. Barclays and the consortium members are all members of the Sustainable Markets Initiative founded by King Charles III. The consortium is positioned as complementary to the UK Government's Fusion Strategy and the flagship STEP programme.
